Do you need a new TV aerial?
If you choose a digital TV service like Freeview, BT Vision or Top-up TV you will need to consider your aerial. If you have a satellite or cable service on all your TVs, you don't need an aerial. Most people with a good aerial now will not need a new aerial for switchover. There is no such thing as a 'digital aerial'
Whether you need a new aerial for switchover will depend on the condition of your aerial and where you live. Check the sections below for further help. If you are eligible for the Help Scheme and choose a Freeview service, they will check your aerial for you.

- If you already have a Freeview service and have poor reception, it is likely to improve at switchover when the power of the digital signal will be increased.
- If you currently have poor reception on your analogue TV, then you may need to replace your aerial at switchover.
There are two tests that can help you decide if you need a new aerial. Find out more.
Most homes will get more than 40 channels and some will receive around 15.
However, a small minority of households watching main transmitters may need a wideband aerial to receive all of the available channels.

What if I need a new aerial?
If you've carried out the tests and think you need to replace your rooftop aerial, do not attempt to adjust it yourself. Look for a Registered Digital Installer (RDI), who has been trained and security checked. Installation of a standard rooftop aerial is likely to cost £60 to £180. Additional sockets cost around £45 each.
To find a RDI near you visit http://www.rdi-lb.tv/ or call our advice line on 08456 50 50 50.
If you can’t find one, don’t worry. Look for someone with Associate RDI, CAI Plus. See www.cai.org.uk. Alternatively, ask your local electrical retailer.
Please note: Don't leave it to the last minute. Installers are busy around switchover.
