Television in the UK is going digital, bringing us all more choice and new services. Starting in 2008, the UK will switch to digital TV, transmitter by transmitter. The exception is Whitehaven, Cumbria, which became the first place to switch in October 2007.

Freesat service launches
A subscription-free digital satellite television service from the BBC and ITV has been launched. Freesat offers more than 80 TV and radio channels and high-definition programming. Receivers start from £49, with high-definition models available from around £120. Installation (including a satellite dish) costs from around £80.
