In 2009 the West Country-TV region will switch to digital TV.

The Beacon Hill transmitter group, serving Torbay and south Devon will switchover in two stages: stage one will be on April 8th and stage two on April 22nd 2009
The Stockland Hill transmitter group, serving Exeter, parts of Devon, Somerset and Dorset will switchover in two stages: stage one will be on May 6th and stage two May 20th 2009
The Huntshaw Cross transmitter group, serving north Devon will switchover in two stages: stage one will be on July 1st and stage two July 29th 2009
The Redruth transmitter group, serving west Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly will switchover in two stages: stage one will be on July 8th and stage two August 5th 2009
The Caradon Hill transmitter group, serving east Cornwall and Devon, including Plymouth will switchover in two stages: stage one will be on August 12th and stage two September 9th 2009
We will let you know the exact date nearer to your switchover and will send you further information well in advance to help you get ready for switchover.

If you live on the edge of the core TV region (shown in dotted shading on the map) you may be part of an adjacent region's switchover. This map is indicative because broadcast signals do not have precise boundaries.

Why is the West Country switching over so far ahead of other regions?
Switchover is a complicated process, and needs to be done in stages so that everyone in the country will be ready for it. The West Country TV region will be one of the first because it has minimal signal interference with other countries, such as France, who are also switching over to digital. West Country viewers will be among the first to receive the benefits of the digital switchover.
What are the benefits?
Currently 6 out of 10 households in the West Country region can get digital reception through their aerial. After switchover almost everyone will be able to enjoy the benefits of digital TV.
