Westcountry Housing provides good quality affordable homes to people throughout Devon and Cornwall, providing more than 4,500 homes in the region. When the proposal for digital switchover were first publicised, we decided to adopt a pro-active approach to ensuring that all housing developments under our management or ownership, were converted or upgraded to receive digital transmissions well in advance of the proposed dates when switchover would take place.
Lead by the Asset Management Department, we undertook a review in 2000 in order to establish the number and location of properties where existing communal television reception systems were in-situ.
Our plans for the upgrading of existing communal television reception systems were discussed at length in consultation with resident representatives, housing management and home ownership teams where owner occupiers were implicated in our propsals.
Our surveyor's team responsible for co-ordinating and overseeing the physical completion of works on site acted as the main intermediaries between residents, the appointed contractors, and internal departments to ensure programmes ran smoothly with minimum disruption to residents.
The installation program was fully completed by the end of the 2003/04 financial year, and any new properties or stock transfers acquired by the association since this time have received the same digital upgrade.
