In 2006, all tenant and leaseholders in receipt of the communal television aerial system were consulted on options to help prepare for the digital switchover. Many tenant and leaseholders were already aware of the process and has already converted to digital services. We have around 5,000 bungalows and houses with communal aerials and 1,000 high rise dwellings (although these received an upgrade to enable Freevew signals to be received in 2003).
In 2007, we began working with Fusion 21 using their expertise to tender nationally for suitable contractors and in 2008, a contractor was selected. Initial work has now commenced to develop a programme of works, along with planning out other matters, such as information sessions for staff, communications for residents and Councillors.
Work will be targeted initially at those properties in receipt of Granada area signals, with a target to complete these works by July 2009. Work will commence during the early part of 2009 on other bungalows and houses sites in receipt of Central area signals, with an aim to complete all works by December 2010.
Work to upgrade the high rise flats to a full IRS system will commence in 2009 and will be completed by December 2010.
