Case Study – Six Town Housing

M1

Six Town Housing is an arm's length management organisation (ALMO) that was established in 2005 to manage over 8400 council homes on behalf of Bury Council.

The decision to upgrade to a full IRS system was made by the board of Six Town Housing in December 2006. Their programme had been developed with the help of a procurement consortium - the Northern Housing Consortium and the involvement of tenant and board members. The programme was launched in September 2007 and is on course for completion by April 2009. All their properties are in the Granada TV region which switches to digital in Q3 2009. There will be no charge to tenants for the work to their home. leaseholders will be charged for the work carried out.

A full list identifying all the homes that rely on a communal aerial system is shared with the teams across the organisation including their contact centre, so that residents' queries can be appropriately handled. Regular updates are included in the Six Town Housing newsletter and website.

Information has been published offering helpful guides for those people who do not rely on communal aerial as in these cases the aerial would be their responsibility. It was recognised that a significant number of these people did not believe the areial was their responsibility.

Six Town housing recognises the importance of combining their communications with thoes being recieved bu their residents from other sources. Digital UK have particularly been extremley useful as part of the preparations for switchover process for the organisation. The information and the sharing of information were very helpful for the project. Their high profile presence in the press and on TV has made our customers aware of the implications of switchover and therefore appreciate the work we are doing in preperation for October 2009.
