IDS

M1

IDS established in 1885 with the aim of relieving overcrowding in the East End of London, now operates in 5 London Boroughs. Although their tenants reflect the general ethnic mix, IDS retains strong links with Jewish communities and as such is regarded as a specialist housing provider.

IDS recognised the potential appeal of digital television back in 2000 and in 2001 all residents were surveyed as to their preferred installation. After consultation on options and costs, an integrated reception service (IRS) that supported Sky services was selected by tenant consensus and a parallel satellite installation receiving the "Hotbird" satellite service to accommodate the needs of their ethinic minority tenants was also sepcified. IDS then embarked on a 3 year programme to upgrade its 1,400 units, which was completed in 2005. A requirement for SKY IRS digital TV dervices now forms part of their property development brief for new housing.

As a result of the early timetable that IDS pursued their staff are fully aware of the switchover programme and the issues surronding the provision and capabilities of the digital and analogue terrestrial services. They continue to keep their tenants informed via newsletters and information emails.
