Technical Devision operates as the Landlords to approximately 4800 homes spread across 12 individual estates in the London area on of which includes the Barbican residential estate consisting of 20 separate blocks incorporating some 2100 flats, 95% of which are leasehold properties and are privately owned.
Some of the estates enjoy 'Listed Building' status and therefore any work project affecting the general external appearance of the property must be legally approved first and hence can also be very limited.
The majority of the homes are residential flats with some sheltered accommodation and have common services which include old communal aerial systems either analogue or cable network systems.
The City of London at the turn of the century decided to consult with its members, stakeholders and various housing committees with a view to start replacing outdated existing analogue TV aerial systems and cable networks with new state of the art digital network technology. The system chosen at the time of the consultation was a five wire IRS enabling full individual access to Sky, terrestrial and DAB radio the first of which was installed and commissioned in late 2004.
To date Technical Division has fully completed 11 estates and aim to finish the last before the end of 2008 using its own approved generic specification.
Since the IRS installations Technical Division tendered and now operate a full comprehensive IRS maintenace contract for all of its estates to ensure that the new systems remain in good service order and repair. The contract includes some service level agreements and can be used to monitor and measure KPIs.
Technical Division are now working towards the future and are investigating the requirements for receiving HD channels and programmes.
