Planning regulations for installation of satellite dishes
Posted on 21st May at 12:03 PM
Planning procedures vary across the UK and are subject to various National and Devolved Administration laws. Generally, most conventional TV aerials are not considered as being ‘development’, and they therefore do not require planning consent. For satellite dishes, the situation is somewhat different. Most households can erect a domestic satellite dish up to a specific size without needing planning permission. However, this general permission depends on the house type and area:
- The number of satellite dishes on a block of flats relates to the building and not to the individual flats;
- People living in certain properties, such as listed buildings, might need listed building consent from their local planning authority in order to erect a satellite dish;
- Particular constraints apply to people living in designated areas such as conservation areas and national parks.
People living in flats or rented accommodation should consult their landlord or managing agent about erecting a satellite dish, before doing so.
