How do I re-tune? Click to expand

Basic re-tuning

Basic re-tuning is quick and easy and needs to be done at each stage of switchover or on any other occasion you find you are missing channels.

Manual re-tuning

If you have missing channels after having done a basic re-tune, or the wrong regional services, you may need to do a manual re-tune to select where services appear on the channel list (EPG). You can do this using the instructions below.

Your manual re-tune instructions for today

These instructions assume you are using the Sandy Heath transmitter. If you know you get your signal from a different transmitter, click here.

  1. Using your remote control, press the 'menu' button.
  2. Select the 'set up' or 'installation' option. If you see picture icons, select the tool box, satellite dish or spanner.
  3. Select 'manual re-tune' or 'manual search'.
  4. If you are prompted for a code, try 0000 or 1234.
  5. For Group 1 (BBC Services) type in 27 where it asks for a 'channel' number (frequency) and press OK.
  6. Repeat steps 1-5 using the different numbers next to each "Group"
(a group is a bundle of TV services), to complete the manual re-tune. Group 2: 24, Group 3: 51, Group 4: 52, Group HD: 21
  7. Then press 'menu' or 'exit' to finish.
  8. NB: These instructions should work for most Freeview TVs or boxes, but they differ, and you may have to speak to your manufacturer for help.

Please note, further re-tuning will be required (including at each stage of the digital switchover) and the channel numbers (frequencies) could change. Look at the full table below for further re-tune dates.

Will I need a new aerial? Click to expand

Most people with a good aerial now will not need a new aerial for switchover. There is no such thing as a 'digital aerial'. You will only need an aerial if you choose to switch with Freeview, BT Vision or Top Up TV.

For more information on aerials, please click here.

Where you see the Wideband Aerial symbol in the channel line-up below, a wideband aerial may be required to receive these channels.
