Digital switchover is being rolled out across the UK between 2008 and 2012 on a transmitter by transmitter basis in each TV region.
This map shows the regions and relevant dates.
Some local authority areas will overlap TV regions. This map lists local authorities by the first ITV switchover region that will impact on them.
Individuals can check when switchover is coming to them and the relevant options by using the online postcode checker on the Digital UK website.
- 2 years before a switchover, Digital UK and the broadcasters begin communications with viewers and Digital UK appoints a regional/national manager
- 12 months from a switchover of the first transmitter in each TV region, Digital UK names the day and begins direct communications with viewers – leaflets, TV ads, press, regional events and PR.
- Between 8 and 5 months out, the Switchover Help Scheme will send the first direct mailing to eligible homes inviting them to take up the offer of help to convert one television set to digital
- 6 months out, viewers will start to see reminder captions on their TV screens and Digital Outreach, the local charity consortium, will deliver community outreach to potentially vulnerable consumers
