Shared aerials

Four million homes in the UK share an aerial with another household – this is known as a ‘shared aerial’ or ‘communal aerial system’. If you live in a flat it is likely that you will have a shared aerial. Many of these will need to be upgraded or replaced for the digital TV switchover. It is estimated that only approximately half of set-top aerials will work after switchover. Consider whether any sets you have can be connected to your communal aerial system.

Who do you need to speak to?

It is important that you speak to whoever is responsible for managing your building to make sure your building is ready for you to receive a digital TV signal this may be:

  • Your landlord
  • Your freeholder
  • Your property manager or managing agent
  • Your residents association
  • Your factor

The person who manages your building may need to take action and upgrade or replace your shared aerial to make sure you can receive a digital signal in your home. They should consult with you about your options.

If you own your flat, you may be required to contribute to the cost of any works to your aerial along with the other residents.

The person managing your building can find more information by visiting our website for Property Managers or call us on 08458 455 455
