The Family: How To Record

…a weekday evening in our family’s household. The Dad is on the sofa watching the footie on the edge of his seat. His wife comes in……

Mum: “Love, can you record my favourite soap? It’s on in a few minutes and I don’t want to miss it.”

…..she hands him an old-fashioned tape….

Dad: “What’s that? We don’t use tapes anymore. (…he throws the tape behind him…) We’ve gone digital (She sits down beside him). Do you know what that means? Now we can record one channel while we’re watching another.”

Mum: “Oh, how does that work?”

….she smiles and prepares herself for another onslaught of information….

Dad: “It’s really easy, you can record any channel you want!”

Mum: “Really?”

….he is animated in explaining to her how Digital TV works….

Dad: “Yep, yep. Firstly, find the program you want to watch, and then all you have to do is press the button.”

…we see dad selecting a program from the TV channel menu…

Dad: “Select it, then its set to record.”

…the program is selected to record on the screen…

Dad: “See, it’s easy. You can record live TV. You can even record an entire series by pressing the series link.”

…he uses the remote to select onscreen….

Mum: “But how do I find my programme once it’s been recorded?”

Dad: “Good question. You go to the library and select the program.”

…he is excited, she is reserved…

Mum: “The library? But that’s….”

Dad: “No no no, It’s a digital library, where all the programs you’ve recorded are stored.” We see the TV screen with the programme list.

....she hands him the oven glove and takes the remote…

Mum: “Thanks love. You have got some cooking to do”

Dad: “But…?”

…he leaves the room while she settles gets comfortable to watch the television
