What is Virgin Media?

Virgin Media offers up to 140 digital TV channels delivered to your home using fibre optic cable - specially designed for digital services. Virgin Media also offers broadband, home phone, and mobile phone - combining all four services from one company.

What equipment do I need?

All the equipment to get you started is provided for free, including the standard digital box. If you opt to install the equipment yourself it's free but if you prefer an engineer to come out to install everything for you there is a £30 charge.

For HD programmes, or to record, pause and rewind live TV, you can choose a V+ box. There's a one-off installation fee of £150 for all customers, then it's free with the size XL TV package, or £5 a month with sizes M or L.

How much does it cost?

Virgin TV starts from free (when you take a Virgin phone line for £11 a month) - that gives you the size M package, with over 40 digital channels.

The bigger size L (over 85 channels) or XL packages (over 140 channels) cost  £11.50 and £20.50, when taken with a Virgin Media phone line. 

Is payment by a one-off cost or by subscription?

It's by subscription, with a minimum term contract.

How is it installed?

There are three choices for installation:

  • Standard installation - a Virgin Media engineer will call and install everything for you for just £30.
  • Priority Install - an engineer will visit at a time to suit you. Pick from an early morning installation (before 10am Monday-Friday) or a Saturday installation, for £40.
  • Quickstart self-installation - in many cases, you can install everything yourself, for free.  

What channels and services do I get as standard?

Your channels depend on which size TV package you choose:

  • Size M: you'll get over 40 digital channels, including BBC3, E4, Virgin 1 and ITV2.
  • Size L: you'll get over 85 digital channels, with everything from size M, plus extras like LIVING, Bravo, UKTVGold and MTV.
  • Size XL: you'll get over 140 digital channels, with everything from size L, plus extras including the Sentanta Sports channels.

Standard services include:

  • Catch up TV on demand - Virgin Media's pick of the last 7 days of TV, available for you to watch whenever you like, free.
  • Parental control - so you can protect your children by choosing what channels they can watch.
  • Virgin Media will fix any equipment at no extra cost while you're a subscriber.

What additional services does ntl offer in the more expensive packages?

  • TV Choice on demand - you can access a huge library of over 1000 TV shows that start and stop when you say so. It's free with TV size XL, or for an extra charge with size M or L.
  • Movies on demand - pick from over 500 films, pause, fast forward and rewind them, just like a DVD. On demand movies is an exclusive service to Virgin Media.
  • Music on demand - choose from over 1000 music videos, plus a range of concerts. 
  • V+ - an HD-ready personal video recorder that lets you record, pause or rewind live TV.
  • Sky Sports and Sky Movies - you can add them to your subscription.
  • Setanta Sports - free with size XL TV, or add them to size M and L for an extra charge.
  • Additional set-top boxes - watch Virgin TV in different rooms in the house from £5 a month.
  • Virgin Broadband - browse the web and download music and movies with up to 20Mb speeds.
  • Virgin Phone - a range of home phone talk plans, including unlimited UK landline calls (calls to 01,02 and 03 numbers) and great value mobile call rates.
  • Virgin Mobile - a flexible service offering a range of Pay Monthly contracts and Pay As You Go phones.

Terms & conditions:

Cable services available only in Virgin Media cabled streets.  Subject to network capacity. Virgin Media digital TV packs currently exclude some Teletext services.

V/ V+ box remains property of Virgin Media; free servicing and repairs excludes misuse/mistreatment. £5 payment handling charge for non-Direct debit payment. Payment may be required in advance. All prices include VAT. Installation charges apply (starting at £30).

Once purchased, all chargeable content must be viewed within 24 hours. On demand movies are pay per title. Catch up TV content available for 7 days after broadcast.
