What is Freeview?

Freeview is a free digital TV service

How much does it cost?

To get Freeview there is a one-off payment for the digital box or digital TV, no monthly subscription. Standard digital boxes start from around £25. Freeview+ Digital TV recorders start from around £80. Integrated digital TVs (iDTV), that have Freeview built-in, are available from around £100 to £3,500. There is no subscription cost.

What equipment do I need?

You will need a digital box or digital TV recorder which will work with your existing TV. Or alternatively you can get an iDTV which has Freeview already built in.

How is Freeview installed?

Freeview equipment can be self-installed (or you can speak to your local retailer who may be able to recommend an installer). You connect your digital box to your existing TV and rooftop aerial. Or just connect the digital TV direct to your rooftop aerial. In some cases your aerial may need upgrading.

How many channels will I get?

With Freeview you will get up to 48 free digital TV channels, including Film 4, E4, ITV2, BBC Three, Sky News and CBeebies, over 20 free digital radio stations and a host of interactive services through the remote control red button.

Does Freeview offer an HDTV service?

Freeview does not currently offer an HD TV service but hopes to in the future.

What other services does Freeview offer?

Many digital boxes and digital TVs have a parental lock facility which enables you to control which channels can be viewed.
