Buyer's Guide Banner

There are lots of different ways to choose to go digital. You can take a subscription service where the installation is done for you. You can visit your local retailer and either get a digital Freeview box to convert your existing TV or get a new TV with Freeview built in.

If you decide to get new equipment that you plan to install yourself, it’s important that whatever you choose, meets your needs. To help you understand the difference between digital equipment, follow the steps below or download our helpful factsheet.

Things to think about

  • How many TVs in your house do you want to continue watching after switchover?
  • Does your existing TV have a SCART socket? This will help you decide if you need a box with a SCART socket or an RF-modulator.
  • Do you record one channel while you are watching another? If so, you should think about buying a digital TV recorder that will also convert your TV
  • Do you need a new aerial? Not sure? Find out how to test your aerial

Buying the right equipment

We are working closely with retailers, manufacturers and Ricability to help you choose equipment that will continue to work after switchover.

When you’re buying new equipment you should look for the ‘digital tick’ and talk to ‘ask digital’ trained advisers who will be able to help you with your purchase. You can also search from a list of products which have the digital tick, here.

Look for a Registered Digital Installer (RDI) with the digital tick logo – this means they have been trained and security checked. Always look for someone with associate RDI  ,  CAI Plus or IDSC status or ask your local electrical retailer. To find a Registered Digital Installer, visit
www.rdi-lb.tv

Do not attempt to adjust the aerial yourself. Seek advice from a good aerial installer or retailer.

Look for the digital tick logo

The digital tick logo is a certification mark that can be found on products that are designed to continue working after switchover.
