The Schools Programme

Digital UK has created a schools programme called ‘The Big Countdown’. It’s an exciting, educational resource for students at key stage 3 level, aged 7 -11. The aim of the programme is to include ‘Digital Switchover’ in various subjects on the national curriculum including History, Citizenship, ICT, English and Environmental Studies.

The project starts in the Whitehaven area of Cumbria where 92% of the local schools have already signed up for the programme. which becomes the first part of the UK to switch to digital in October – before rolling out nationally by TV region, starting with Border next year.

The digital TV switchover is a significant landmark in TV broadcasting history. We want to give children the opportunity to understand and be a part of this unprecedented event by providing relevant and fun classroom resources to help them enjoy learning and digital TV.
