The Community Outreach Programme is managed and delivered by Digital Outreach through the voluntary and community sector. The programme has been set up to raise awareness, understanding and cascade information on switchover and the Switchover Help Scheme through organisations who support people who fall into the following six groups:
- Older people
- People who are socially isolated
- People with sensory, mobility or dexerity impairments
- People who have mental health problems
- People who speak English as a second language
- People with learning difficulties
The Community Outreach Programme starts six months before the first switchover date and ends one month after the last second switchover date in each region.
Digital Outreach appoints 'lead organisations' which have excellent links with the local community. They coordinate and lead the Community Outreach Programme, support their local networks by providing information about the digital TV switchover, training, small grants, leaflets and promotional materials.
